Dr. Courtney R. Morgan was born into a family of music. He is the son of the renowned Living Legend, Derrick S. Morgan, the Jamaican King of Ska, who shaped the evolution of Jamaican rhythms into today’s reggae sound. Dr. Morgan’s familial ties to the entertainment industry extend even further, with his sister, the renown Queen Ifrica, and his uncle, prominent record producer Bunny “Striker” Lee. Surrounded by these talented musical role models, it is no surprise that Dr. Morgan’s passion for music developed at an early age along with his steady exposure to the musical elements that flowed daily through his life. Among his favorite memories of those times, are the occasions when he accompanied his father and uncles to the studio where he became a part of the frequent and close interactions with music legends such as Desmond Dekker, Bob Marley, and Jimmy Cliff. Late nights in the studio were also all too familiar to him. Long days, back stage at concerts, and behind the scenes production and promotion, became routine experiences that continued long after he left his home country of Jamaica. As a native islander, Dr. Morgan spent five years in Kingston, Jamaica, before being sent as a forerunner to live in the United States – as in those days, migration of an entire family was typically achieved gradually. He was immediately injected into the heart of Miami in an area that is still largely impoverished and saturated with culturally rich Hispanic influence. Like many immigrants that make up the fabric of our country, Dr. Morgan was raised in a household with the traditional ideals of a strong work ethic and self-discipline. And not unlike many children of immigrants, he became an ambassador for his family at a very young age. This instilled a sense of self and leadership that has come to define him. Dr. Morgan independently navigated the educational system, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Miami. He then obtained his Medical Doctorate at Howard University School of Medicine. He returned to his South Florida hometown to complete his residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in the Department of Family Medicine. During his academic pursuits, he remained closely involved in the music and entertainment industry. While practicing medicine, Dr. Morgan nurtured his innate love for music. He recorded two R&B singles “Wassup, Wassup,” featuring his sister, Lavern, and reggae single,“I Like the Way”featuring Keka and Lo’Grando. In April of 2011, Dwayne “Lil’ Wayne” Carter and Young Money Entertainment extended to Dr. Morgan the opportunity for him to perform his two singles at Lil Wayne’s concert in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. His songs were the opening numbers at the concert, and with dreadlocks hanging below his shoulders, flashing about with every bounce, Dr. Morgan introduced himself to the music world as the artist, Grand Police. On the arena stage, Grand Police effortlessly transformed his songs into a high energy and charismatic performance. His set concluded with shouts of praise in his native Patios dialect, which was well received and echoed by some members of the audience. As a physician, Dr. Morgan has an intense interest and love for life and humanity, and possesses a natural desire to help others. His Jamaican musical roots and Miami background led him to create a VIP practice where he tends to high profile patients ranging from professional athletes to celebrity artists. While a true “Doctor for the Stars,” he presents challenges on many fronts. Yet, his integrity, positive attitude, and consistent approach to life enabled him to rise above many unforeseen the undueobstacles. Even now, he continues to progress in a manner that defies his surroundings, adverse or otherwise, always promoting fair play and reminding others of the most important things in life: consistency of friendship, commitment to family and decency in our interactions with others. He is an ethical rock and moral compass to all who know him.
Dr. Tywaun Tillman is a South Carolina native whose exceptional athletic abilities and passion for helping others, have brought him full circle as a physician and mentor. Dr. Tillman is driven by his desire to help others. It is no surprise that he has established the most admirable reputation amongst patients which earned him the 2014 Patient’s Choice Award as well as the 2014 Compassionate Doctor Award. However, it is surprising that medicine was not his first love. As a child, Dr. Tillman developed an affinity for sports. Immersed in his Little League baseball practices and games, he recognized his own aptitude for athletic performance. It was around this time that he also discovered that he was afflicted with severe asthma. However, this did not derail or discourage him from engaging in what he enjoyed most, sports. As Dr. Tillmancontinued to nurture what nature had given him, at the young age of 12, he began to draw the attention of professional scouts. Over time he expanded into football and basketball, and excelling in these three sports annually became the norm. During his high school senior year, he was named a “pre-season All American,” an achievement stunted by a right leg fracture sustained during a football practice. Despite the fact that his injury did not permit him to play the entire football season, his track record, talent and perseverance in pursuing his love for sports enabled him to qualify for and to receive several athletic scholarship offers. Dr. Tillman attended Furman University as a biology major and “red-shirted” his first year. During his junior year, he suffered an injury that ended his football career when he fractured two vertebrae in his neck. Although he had been immersed in sports for much of his life, he did not neglect his educational purpose, but was equally immersed in his academics. He had selected Furman University because of their academic program. He had chosen to major in biology, with a pre-medical track. He graduated cum laude, something he had worked towards during his entire college career. Essentially, Dr. Tillman was prepared to travel either path, sports or medicine, as opportunities unfolded. Dr. Tillman earned his Medical Doctorate from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota, in Internal Medicine, while simultaneously working as an Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine. He continued additional specialty training in an elite cardiology fellowship program at the University of South Florida. Although a successful cardiologist, he has not abandoned his first love, and it is through this avenue that he gives back to his community. Dr. Tillman’s scope of mentorship extends beyond his local commune, into his home-state of South Carolina and down to educational stomping grounds in South Florida. In Texas, he mentors at risk youths through a local program called Second Chance Boxing Club/Outkast Boxing. His motto is, “Learn from the past, live in the present, and aim for the future.” He believes that setting goals early in life is paramount to achievement, and every ‘Plan A’ must have its ‘Plan B,’ where academics never falls to the wayside. Dr. Tillman exercises a consistent approach to life, duplicating the mentorship formula that inspired him, to help inspire others.
